Ideas for good deeds

Here are some ideas to start you off. However, there are a few limitations. Number one - if you already do it, it doesn't count! For example, if you already wash the dishes, you can't use that as one. And number two - you are not allowed to do the same thing more than once a week. Again, like washing the dishes - you can't do that for a whole month and then say you did your best to change the world! Ok, your parents/partner/flatmates might die of shock…Of course, we have no way of checking on you, but in that old saying you probably heard at school - if you cheat, you're really only cheating yourself.

That said, here is the list. If we receive any more suggestions we like, we'll post them on here and on our blog. Don't be afraid to be creative!

  • Vacuum
  • Help someone with heavy bags
  • Cook
  • Pick up something that someone has dropped
  • Wash dishes
  • Turn off electronics that are in standby mode to save electricity
  • Turn off lights when you leave a room
  • Dust
  • Help someone with homework
  • Write to your Congressperson/MP/other political representative about an issue you care about
  • Recycle
  • Empty out the bin/trashcan (let's face it - nobody likes it)
  • Make a mix CD for a friend
  • Share something with someone (a seat, some chocolate, your time…)
  • Take the time to write a proper letter to someone, and mail it
  • Buy some stickers or make badges and give one to everyone you love
  • Put your litter in a bin - especially chewing gum
  • Let elderly or disabled people board the bus before you, or let them have your seat
  • Talk to someone beside you on public transport
  • Actively support a worthy cause
  • Make an effort to have a family meal
  • Share a book that touched you - if you can bear to part with it
  • Buy something, where the proceeds from the sale go to charity
  • Bake something and share it with people
  • Be there for a friend who isn't feeling so great
